DC Council, I am writing to ask you to vote against PR22-0979, the extension of the Bruce Monroe Disposition agreement. There is large-scale opposition to this plan for this site. It violates the City's own zoning rules, it destroys the already-limited green space in Ward 1, and it doesn't meet the needs of Park Morton residents. It is not too late to fix this disastrous plan: The decision of the Zoning Commission is currently under appeal. We are in favor of more affordable housing, but we refuse to accept that in order to gain affordable housing we must give up an already dwindling resource in the city's green space and accept a development that is too big for the neighborhood. We also want to see existing longterm families at Park Morton be considered meaningfully, and open the doors to true homeownership to meet some of their community needs. When the Bruce Monroe case comes before you again with the Disposition agreement, we ask you to postpone the extension. This will provide space for the city to work with the Bruce Monroe Park neighbors and the Park Morton residents to make a better plan. We know we can come up with a plan that will make all parties happy, but the developers must be brought back to the table and truly consider community input. You as Councilmembers can make the space for this discussion to happen. I look forward to hearing how you will take action on this important matter. Thank you,
